Three Atlanta men arrested for burglary in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police arrested three men from Atlanta for breaking into a Food City under construction.
Officers responded to the burglary late Friday night at around 11 p.m. It happened at the Food City that’s currently being built at 1300 Broad Street.
According to police, these three attempted to steal several spools of wire, which was worth nearly $4,000. The wire was being used for construction.
Officers arrested 35-year-old Douglass Bernard Henderson, 30-year-old Christian Peters and 26-year-old Jecorey Clark.
When officers arrived, they said two of the suspects attempted to run away, and the other was sitting in a white Toyota Camry. The third suspect then left the car and ran from police as well.
A deputy said that while they attempted to take Henderson into custody, he resisted arrest.
Chattanooga police also said they found some bolt cutters on the property, which they believe the suspects used to break in.
Officers found several tools in the car, which they think were stolen. CPD said they also found marijuana and a gun in the car.
According to CPD, Clark told officers he did not know the other two suspects. Clark said he met the other two at a gas station in Atlanta, and they offered him $100 to drive them to Chattanooga. Clark was the owner of the Toyota, according to CPD.
Peters then told officers that he was homeless and had been in Chattanooga for three days. Officers said he would not give any information on the burglary.
In addition, police said Henderson refused to talk.
Chattanooga police booked the three suspects into the Hamilton County Jail.
All three face charges of theft of property over $2,500, burglary, possession of burglary tools and evading arrest. Henderson also faces a resisting arrest charge.
In addition, Clark faces charges of possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a firearm with intent to go armed, possessing a firearm during a felony and drugs general category for resale.
