Three charged after reported gunfire near a school bus

DADE COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) —  Three individuals have been charged after a incident was reported in Dade County.

Dade County Sheriff’s Office stated they were notified by the Dade County Schools Superintendent that a school bus driver reported seeing a male standing next to the road and heard gunshots when the bus passed by him.

A police report was filed and Dade County Deputies were able to identify the suspect.

Dade County Investigators obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, where the firearm was recovered.

The Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force was also called to the scene of the residence for assistance.

This led to drug charges against two more individuals inside the residence.

As a result, three individuals were charged.

One male, 17 years old, was charged with Aggravated Assault, Cruelty to Children, and Discharging a Firearm within 50 yards of a Roadway.

Another male, 18 years old, and a female, 16 years old, were both charged with Possession of a Schedule 1, Possession of a Schedule 2, and Possession with the Intent to Distribute.

Evidence from the investigation never revealed that the suspect shot toward or at the school bus, or at any of the students on the bus.

“I want to thank our SRO’s, Road Deputies, Investigators, our DA’s Office, and our School System Administrators for their assistance in quickly identifying the suspect, recovering the firearm, and making an arrest in less than 24 hours from when the Superintendent was notified. The safety of our students and community are one of my top priorities, and we will never tolerate this type of thing in Dade County,” stated Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross.
