Three people shot in East Chattanooga neighborhood less than 24-hours after unity walk
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – Three people were shot in an East Chattanooga neighborhood less than 24-hours after a unity prayer walk in the same area.
The 2600 block of Dodson Avenue was anything but quiet Sunday morning. A drive-by shooting left three people including a minor injured. All three victims were driven to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses were able to give police a description of the suspect’s vehicle.
“There’s a possibility a gray or gold Impala with four black males fled the from the scene. We’re unsure at this time who those suspects are so if you know any information, call the Chattanooga Police Department,” said Chattanooga Police Public Information Officer Victor Miller.
Minister Jeffery Evans was upset by the incident because less than 24-hours prior, he led a unity prayer walk.
“When is it going to stop? I’m out here everyday trying to prevent this type of crime that’s happening everyday in our neighborhood,” Evans said.
Next to the yellow crime scene tape were a group of family and friends of the shooting victims. They wouldn’t go on camera to express how they feel about Chattanooga’s gun violence, but they did rely on Minister Evans to speak on their behalf.
“We slowly killing our generation. Black on black crime. When is the peace going to start coming in? Everybody needs to be in an out roar right now because the blacks are killing more blacks than the police are killing blacks,” Evans said.
At one point, officers frantically left the scene on Dodson Avenue to join in on a car chase involving what was thought to be a suspect in the case. The chase ended at the Krystal’s restaurant on Highway 58.
“We responded to information that was given from a community member who provided us with information of a possible other shooting that was going to occur, so we believe the officers that responded to that incident have stopped another shooting,” Miller said.
When News 12 last checked, Chattanooga Police were still trying to determine if the man taken into custody for leading officers on a car chase was somehow linked to the Dodson Avenue Shooting.
Investigators were also trying to determine if the Dodson shooting was linked to the fatal Sunday morning shooting of Marquise Jackson.
Jackson was shot to death in the 200 block of Water Street.
