Thrift Shop Reopens Supporting Moms
CLEVELAND, TN (WDEF) – Good Foundations Thrift in Cleveland recently reopened after a week‑long remodel made possible by donated items and volunteer efforts from two groups from First Baptist Church.
The thrift is part of Foundation House Ministries, a nonprofit that walks with mothers trapped in crisis lifestyles, including overcoming addiction, homelessness, or economic hardship, as they pursue stability, life skills, and independence through safe housing, counseling, education, and job readiness.
The thrift provides more than affordable shopping; it serves as a job training site where participating mothers gain hands‑on work experience while helping run the store, building confidence and employable skills.
Many of the women served arrive with little job experience or formal education, and the ministry’s programs are designed to help them rebuild lives and futures.
Suzanne Burns, Executive Director of Foundation House Ministries, said, “In order to understand the impact of this place you have to understand how they come. They often arrive in high anxiety, high trauma. Many of them come from a history of abuse, a history of addiction, really being told from every angle you are not good enough.”
The thrift supports the ministry’s mission as mothers gain experience while contributing to a supportive community and moving toward greater stability.
Foundation House Ministries will celebrate its work and supporters at its Spring Banquet on Tuesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church. Tickets are $50 each and include a sit-down meal.
