Thunderbirds to Join Wings Over North Georgia Air Show in April

Rome Georgia’s airport has extended a runway to make room for the Thunderbirds this spring.

The Air Force flying team will join a Spring Edition of the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show in April.

The Richard B. Russell Regional Airport has built a seven thousand foot runway with SPLOST funds.

That means the Thunderbirds pilots can actually land and mix with their fans.

Before, they would have to fly to Rome from Dobbins Air Base in Marietta.

The air show is normally in the fall, but they couldn’t resist an Easter weekend opening in the Thunderbirds schedule.

There will also be several other flying teams at the show plus a Friday night 250th birthday event with drones and fireworks.
