Time Capsule buried at Mary Walker Tower

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Mary Walker Tower buried a Time Capsule today.

The last time capsule they had wasn’t preserved well.

When they opened it in 2020 the contents were damaged.

This year they are focusing on preservation and plan to open the capsule in 2045.

Mary Walker was an inspiration to many in Chattanooga.

She was Chattanooga’s Ambassador of Goodwill and learned how to read when she was over a hundred years old.

Ciara Robinson is the CSR at Mary Walker Tower’s.

She said, “To bring our community together, all the elderly, it is a nice thing for them to be together and have fun. They actually get to learn from each other and be around each other. We had buried one a couple years ago. They opened it up May the sixth. This year we are going to wait and open it up in 2024 on Mary Walker’s birthday.”

Events like these bring those living in the Mary Walker Tower’s together and continue the ideas of community that Mary Walker worked to create.
