Tips to reduce COVID-19 vaccine side effects

(WDEF)- As with any type of medicine, there are potential side effects from receiving the covid-19 vaccine.

“Plan for the worst and hope for the best. I really can’t predict who’s going to have the symptoms or not,” said endocrinologist/co-founder of Vous Vitamin Dr. Romy Block M.D.

There are several common side effects people might experience after receiving the covid-19 vaccine.

“Even though you have side effects and you’re feeling like you have a mild flu it’s only going to last for about 24 to 48 hours. And what we’re seeing from Covid even in young people the symptoms can last for months,” said Dr. Block.

They include being tired and having muscle fatigue where you feel like you don’t want to get out of bed.

There are also chills or fever, which means potentially a lot of trips to the thermostat.

Headaches are also a possible side effect.

Dr. Block said there are several things you can do to help reduce these side effects.

“Drink a lot of fluids. Rest. Make sure you take it easy and listen to your body. You can take some ibuprofen to help with some of the symptoms and then there’s room for some vitamins as well. Vitamin D or magnesium can also help,” said Dr. Block.

Although this doesn’t eliminate the potential for any side effects. Doctor Block says any of the vaccine side effects are worth stopping the spread of covid.

“When we look at the data, we do see that of those groups that no one was hospitalized of the people who still got Covid and no one died. And that is huge. Even if there is a small chance of you getting infected with Covid, it’s still worth it in the end for your friends, for your family, for your community,” said Dr. Block.

She also said people should get any vaccine available to them including the Johnson and Johnson vaccine that has a one in a million chance of a rare blood clot.

“There’s a higher percentage of people with covid with those symptoms than the vaccine,” said Dr. Block.

If you do get the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and experience pain in your calves or shoulder to contact your doctor.
