Tips to Combat Bad Air Quality
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- With wildfires in Canada spreading smoke across the Eastern U.S., experts are warning about how to handle bad air quality.
Thankfully so far in the Tennessee Valley the air quality has not been as impacted as areas in the Northeast from the smoke, but there could be increased impacts depending on weather patterns.
Doctors say that people with respiratory issues need to be careful, but everyone should pay attention to air quality when it is bad.
Dr. Jennifer Patel with the Chattanooga Allergy Clinic said, “You can feel respiratory systems, so you can feel burning, chest tightness, coughing, wheezing. You can also feel dizzy, burning in your nose, any of those things especially on a very quickly basis due with your outside exposure I would say you need to go back inside.”
Dr.Patel encourages those with respiratory issues to have inhalers, prescribed, and emergency medicines on hand, and to monitor the air quality index.
Today the air quality index in the Chattanooga area was in the moderate category, and it is expected to be problematic through the weekend.
