Titans Keeping First Round Playoff Bye in Perspective

The Tennessee Titans get to sit out super wild card weekend, which gets underway on Saturday.
Titans enjoying a first round playoff bye with the best record in the AFC.

But the team is keeping the extra time off in perspective.

Having a first round playoff bye is a huge benefit. But it guarantees absolutely nothing.
Said head coach Vrabel:”This is when you have to play your best. This is when it matters. There’s no. There’s no do-over. There’s no hey let’s come back next week and get’em.”
Said defensive back Kevin Byard:”You know when we were in the playoffs in 2019, we played against the Ravens. They were a one seed. 14-2. And we went up there and destroyed them boys pretty much for the entire game. We don’t want to go up there with that type of mentality. Hey we got a week off. We play a home game. You know that stuff doesn’t matter once they kick the ball off.”
Maybe playoff experience will matter.
Said tight end Anthony Firkser:”Yeah I think everyone is dialed in and even more focused and ready to go. We’ve been here in the past couple of years. So we kind of know what it takes.”
Said Byard:”This is a playoff game, but we play games all year. We don’t have to go out here and do nothing crazy. Try to be Superman. Just do what we do. Play together as a defense or as a whole team.”
Said Vrabel:”But you have to be able to execute. You’re going to have to be able to come up with clutch plays. Both sides of the football. You’re going to have to make a critical kick to help you win and move on in the playoffs.”
Probably add critical throws to the mix.
Reporter:”From your perspective does playoff performance maybe ultimately define a quarterback?”
Said quarterback Ryan Tannehill:”Well I don’t know. You guys define quarterbacks however you want to. For me I think you want to play your best football. I know the reason we play this game is to go win a championship. It’s the reason I play. We’re chasing after it.”
And hopefully the chase will indeed land with a Super Bowl title.
Said Byard:”Titan Way. I know people are always talking about the Patriots Way and things like that. The Patriots Way is winning Super Bowls. So I think we don’t have a Titans Way until we win a Super Bowl. I think that’s what’s next. Obviously the progression has been from wildcard to divisi

on to AFC Championship and things like that. So the next thing to accomplish is just go out there to the Super Bowl and go win it all.”
