Tivoli, Memorial Auditorium Get New Management
Berke appointed the Tivoli Foundation Board and it has now announced a new management group.
The changeover will come quickly —July 1st.
The lavish Tivoli opened way back in 1921 after the city spent about a million dollars creating the once-popular movie palace. Everyone who see’s the Tivoli admits it is one of the most impressive theater in the south.
But that splendor didn’t fill the seats on a regular basis and Mayor Berke wanted to explore new ideas.
He formed the Tivoli Foundation to direct the study.
KEITH SANFORD, CHAIRMAN, THE TIVOLI FOUNDATION "We wanted a model that would energize the theaters…producing great experiences every time the doors open."
Keith Sanford says, his group did not have to look very far for an answer.
KEITH SANFORD "But the best proposal, the one we think will accomplish what we want for the city, came from AC entertainment of Knoxville, the firm that books and manages the Tennessee Theater. "
AC booked Track 29 in Chattanooga and is listed as co-founder of the successful Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival. AC Entertainment books more than a thousand live shows a year."
PATRICK RODDY,COO, AC ENTERTAINMENT " We’ve got to create great experiences. Experiences that are unforgettable ……and to do that we have to have to have the right acts that come to town…we have to have the right activity…have the right integrated type of performances …whether its the symphony, whether its a broadway performance …whether its top touring acts….or community events. "
AC Entertainment is actually taking over management of three facilities. In addition to the Tivoli, which seats 1750 people, there’s the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial auditorium which can accommodate 4800 and the Walker Community theater inside the auditorium which seats 700.
