TN Authorities investigating Cumberland County murder-suicide
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a homicide in Fairfield Glade on Wednesday morning. From this incident, two people are deceased and one other is severely injured.
At the time of the 911 call, there was a domestic situation in progress with shots fired from the back deck of the house. Fairfield Glade Police responded to the house at 510 Wimberly Road just before 8 a.m.
Officers went into the house and found a man with severe lacerations, whom they identified as James Chapman, 76, and a dead woman. They identified the woman as 69-year-old Karen Chapman. Both lived at that residence on Wimberly Road.
James Chapman was airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the TBI then responded to assist. Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jason James Chapman, who also lived at the Wimberly Road home.
They then put out a BOLO for the suspect. Investigators learned that Chapman was at a hotel in Malvern, Arkansas. However, they authorities found him dead from self-inflicted injuries.
Sheriff Casey Cox and Chief Kate Self informs the public that there is no danger to the community.
The investigation is ongoing.
