TN Gov. Bill Haslam Wants New Spending on Schools, Colleges and Road Projects

Governor Bill Haslam delivered his biggest speech of the year Monday night.

Haslam laid out his vision for Tennessee’s future in his annual State of the State address. His roughly $35 billion dollar spending plan includes new spending for K-12 schools ($261 million) and colleges without a tax increase.  Haslam said “When people talk about conservative government, that’s it in a nutshell. We’re using taxpayers’ money like we would use our own.”

Haslam also proposed using $130 million from the general fund to pay for highway projects and maintenance and placing $100 million into budget reserves.
