TN gubernatorial candidates continue campaigning in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Beth Harwell took a tour of the Tag Manufacturing facility on Tuesday with State Representative Mike Carter.
Harwell is currently the Tennessee House Speaker.
“Should President Trump be successful and I pray and I hope that he is, domestic issues are gonna be returned to the state level where they can be much more efficiently and effectively run and I think you’re gonna want someone that from day one has a working knowledge of state government and an ability to work with the General Assembly,” Harwell said
The Republican has been vocal on supporting medical marijuana.
And, Harwell said people have responded with support.
“What’s been interesting is the number of people that have come up to me actually on early voting when I’ve been working precincts that are elderly. It’s not young people that are interested in it. It’s the elderly people that are saying I want an alternative for my chronic pain other than opioids and as people face chronic illnesses and injuries, I think that they deserve the option,” Harwell said.
Randy Boyd dropped by Champy’s on Wednesday.
He’s running against Harwell, as well as Diane Black and Bill Lee.
“My vision is to make Tennessee the state of opportunity, opportunity for better education, better jobs and everyone,” Boyd said.
Boyd is an entrepreneur and businessman.
He said he also has executive state branch experience.
“So I’ve served with Governor Haslam in education and created the Drive to 55 and the Tennessee Promise that allows every kid to go to community college for free. Then I came back as commissioner of economic and community development and recruited 50,000 jobs to the state. Also, I did both those two jobs for free, and as governor I’ll also pledge to not draw salary,” Boyd said.
Boyd said he’s hitting up around seven counties in east Tennessee on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Harwell said she’ll be in Jackson and Shelby County.
The polls open from 8 AM to 8 PM ET on Thursday.
