TN House District 27 Debate

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Two republican candidates vying for a house seat faced off Monday.

Patsy Hazlewood and Tommy Crangle would like to represent District 27 in Tennessee.

That includes areas like Soddy Daisy, Red Bank, and Lookout Mountain.

The Pachyderm Club of Hamilton County hosted the Monday afternoon debate.

It included topics like immigration and the common core state standards initiative.

Hazlewood says, "The curriculum, how teachers teach that. No, teachers are professionals. We don’t tell doctors how to do their medical practice, we don’t tell lawyers how to practice. So, again, but we need to maintain those standards.

Crangle adds, "One of the things I say about common core is that it’s the best kept secret in Tennessee. I’ll guarantee most of the people in this audience do not understand most of what common core is even about."

Hazlewood and Crangle will go up against Charlie White in the August 7th primary election.

The winner will face Eric Mcroy on November 4th.

Early voting starts next Friday.
