Today’s developments in Chattanooga shootings
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The city continues to get a grasp on the gun violence plaguing Chattanooga over the last few weekends.
On Tuesday, officials confirm to us that Chattanooga Police now consider the McCallie Avenue shooting to be “gang-related.”
But they do NOT think it was “gang-motivated.”
What’s the difference?
Gang members shooting other people for more personal reasons.
Chief Celeste Murphy is also saying her officers will begin a crackdown on parties that spill into the streets.
She says events that end up blocking traffic or racing will not be tolerated.
Street parties have been a common thread from the Grove Street shooting last summer to the party on McCallie.
Also the Chief is telling city council members tonight that the camera on the corner at Mary’s Bar was not working at the time of the shooting.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have decided to try a 15 year old as an adult in the shooting two weekends ago on Cherry Street.
Six young people were injured in that shooting, including two who are critical.
District Attorney General Neal Pinkston has filed the paperwork to transfer the suspect in custody to adult Criminal Court.
The 15 year old faces charges of attempted murder.
Police are still looking for another juvenile in that case.
