Traffic changes ahead as TDOT advances I-75/I-24 interchange improvement project
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Drivers traveling near the I-75 and I-24 interchange should prepare for upcoming construction that will impact traffic patterns next week.
The work is part of Phase 2 of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s project to widen and improve the busy interchange.
Crews will focus on upgrades to I-24 East between Belvoir Avenue and I-75.
From Sunday, August 10, 2025 through Wednesday, August 13, TDOT contract crews will work nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Key changes include:
- Opening a new fourth lane on I-24 East from Belvoir Road to I-75
- Opening a new entrance ramp from South Terrace to I-24 East west of Moore Road
- Closing the existing entrance ramp from South Terrace east of Moore Road for several weeks. Detours will be posted
- Opening a new fifth lane between McBrien Road and I-75
- Reducing the I-24 East to I-75 North ramp from three lanes to two for continued work
- All permanent traffic changes are expected to be in place by Wednesday morning, August 13, weather permitting
Once completed, these changes will help bring the I-75/I-24 interchange into its final alignment.
TDOT urges drivers to use caution in the area and remain alert to new traffic patterns.
Drivers are advised to consider alternate routes during construction hours.
Delays are expected, and drivers should follow all posted signage.
