SCOTTSBORO — An arrest has been made and a stolen firearm recovered following a traffic stop on March 2 around 2 p.m.

According to the Scottsboro Police Department (SPD), an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of Ridgewood Drive on a maroon Toyota Tacoma for an equipment violation.

Upon initial contact, the driver provided his driver’s license but was unable to provide proof of insurance.

The driver was ultimately identified as Anthony Lewis Hitchcock, 47, of Woodville, Alabama.

During the investigation, the officer asked and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the search, officers located synthetic cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm that was listed as stolen in NCIC, the SPD says.

Hitchcock was placed under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Spice) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

They say Hitchcock was transported to the Scottsboro City Jail, where he was later transferred to the Jackson County Jail without incident.

The firearm was turned over to the investigations division to follow-up on the original agency that reported the firearm as stolen.
