Trey Bonham’s huge night leads to 89-61 Mocs win over UNCG

GoMocs- The Chattanooga Mocs scored early and often in a dominating performance at UNC Greensboro Saturday afternoon. The 89-61 win makes it six in a row on the road for the Mocs who are now 17-8, 9- in the Southern Conference, while the Spartans drop to 17-8, 8-4 in the league.

Trey Bonham led all scorers with a career-high tying 31 points. Honor Huff added 19, while Myles Che and Jan Zidek came off the bench for 14 and 11, respectively. Mikeal Brown-Jones led the Spartans with 25 points.

The decisive moment came early. Down four after a Brown-Jones layup, the Mocs went on a 22-7 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 25-14 lead with 7:10 left in the first half on a Sam Alexis jumper.

Huff’s three at 2:43 of the first half made it a 12-point game. The lead never got back to single digits. It topped 20 at 16:01 on a Bonham layup. That grew to an apex of 29 on two Bonham free throws with 7:06 remaining.
