Trial set for detective accused of lying in Ooltewah rape case

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WDEF) – A trial date has been set for the Gatlinburg detective accused of lying on the stand in the Ooltewah rape case.

This afternoon, Judge Greenholtz set a March 20th trial date for Rodney Burns. He faces two counts of aggravated perjury.

Judge Greenholtz says there are still some outstanding issues that need to be resolved, including a motion to dismiss the case.

He explains, “There are three basic rounds of the motion to dismiss. If you all can give me essentially two more weeks, I will have the opinion filed by that time. Is that okay with the parties?”

If it’s not dismissed, Burns is scheduled to appear in court on February 19th for a pretrial conference.

The Burns case is the last piece of the Ooltewah basketball story that has not gone to trial.
