Trion Has Another Big Time Running Back in Toby Maddux
Trion, GA-(WDEF-TV) What are they putting in the water in Trion? That town has turned out some stud running backs here lately.
Rob Brown led the state of Georgia in rushing a couple of years ago. Logan Eller ran for over 13-hundred yards last year.
Now here comes Toby Maddux, who rushed for over 300 yards in his last game.
The only thing that could stop trying running back Toby Maddux from running was the end zone.
Said head coach Sean Patrick: “Toby’s been doing this for years. You know, it’s a four year starter for us. Um, you know, played really well up front, you know, really excited about how we played up front because obviously those big guys have got to go in there and do work. You know, conditions the other night were conducive to running, you know, it was nasty and wet and rainy. Uh, but again, yeah, when you got a running back that averages 22 yards a carry, it’s probably, uh, bodes well to having a good night.”
Maddux ran for 309 yards and five touchdowns on just 14 carries against Chattooga.
Said Maddux: “It’s great, honestly, especially with it being that game, our crosstown rivals, uh, I don’t know, it was a lot of fun. I mean, our O line did, had a great game. I mean, they did great for me.”
Although it’s the most rushing yards in a game, it’s not his biggest ever offensive output.
Said Maddux:”I haven’t rushed for that many, but last year against Peperrell, uh, all purpose yards, I had a little over 300. That’s the most, uh, that’s the most I’ve ever rushed for.”
He has also played with some talented running backs during his four years at Trion
.
Said Patrick: “We’ve been blessed to have some good running backs in my tenure here. You know, you go back and look at Rob Brown and what he was able to do a couple of years ago. And even last year with Logan Eller.
Said Maddux: “great running backs this past couple of years with Rob Brown being the number one rusher in the state. Um, two years ago, I mean, I was still running the ball some with them and was was splitting some carries, but I don’t know. Them dudes are dogs.”
He has also grown and come out of his shell during his high school career.
Said Maddux: “Freshman year, I came out there and I was, I was scared every game. I was so nervous and so up top, but just being used to being out there on Friday nights and just learning to have fun.”
Said Patrick: “His personality has really come out over the last year or so. So, you know, just kind of seeing him sing in the locker room and dance around the locker room is always fun to see.”
