Truck rear ends motorcycles, one dies in Murray County

MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) — A serious wreck happened in Murray County on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Ford F-150 was traveling north on Georgia State Route 61 (U.S. Highway 411) when it rear-ended three motorcycles.

Authorities say the truck was speeding, and one of the motorcycles became imbedded in the front of the truck.

The driver initially did not stop, and police say the crash scene was about 1,000 feet long.

But a witness followed until Fairmount Police were able to stop the truck, six miles away.

One motorcycle rider died as a result of this crash, Life Force took three riders to a hospital and an ambulance took two to the hospital.

The highway was shut down for nearly three hours as a result of the crash.

Police say the driver of the truck is facing a vast number of charges.

Those charges include:

  • DUI,
  • 1st Degree homicide by vehicle,
  • Felony hit & run (3 counts),
  • Serious injury by vehicle (4 counts),
  • Reckless driving,
  • Following too closely (3 counts),
  • Failure to maintain lane.

They have not yet released the identity of the driver.
