Trucking company buying locally owned U.S. Xpress
Knight-Swift Transportation announces deal that will keep company operating in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – One of the leading Chattanooga-based freight companies is being bought out.
Officials with U.S. Xpress announced the deal on Tuesday morning.
Knight-Swift Transportation is purchasing U.S. Xpress in what is being called one of the largest trucking company deals in history.
They are paying $808 million for the company.
The deal will add more than seven thousand trucks to their fleet which will grow to 25,000 overall.
U.S Xpress management says Knight-Swift keeps separate brands in the company so the local company will continue here under its own name.
“This is just one reason I am convinced that joining the Knight-Swift team is an exciting opportunity for our people, our customers, and the communities we call home.”
Industry tracker FreightWaves reports that U.S. Xpress has struggled to regain business after the pandemic while competitors have thrived.
