TSA provides dos and don’ts for holiday traveling

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – With the holiday season in full swing, millions of travelers are heading to airports to reunite with loved ones.

Airports are expected to be busier than ever, and long security lines can cause added stress. TSA agents want to remind passengers about how to pack, what to bring, and more importantly, what not to bring.

The TSA recommends arriving at the airport early—at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international ones.

Travelers can use TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” tool on their website or app to check the status of specific items. And don’t forget to double-check your bags for anything that could cause delays at the checkpoint.

Before you head to the airport this holiday season, make sure your bags are packed properly! The TSA is reminding travelers to follow the 3-1-1 liquids rule. The 3-1-1 liquids rule for your carry-on bag: liquids, gels, and aerosols must be in containers of 3.4 ounces or smaller and fit into a single quart-sized bag. This includes items like toiletries, beverages, and liquid holiday treats such as jams or syrups.

TSA is also recommending leaving wrapped gifts at home. Plan to wrap gifts at your final destination or place gifts in unwrapped gift bags to avoid TSA needing to unwrap gifts in the case of flagged items.

The Transportation Security Administration stated that the busiest travel days tend to be the 23rd, 27th, 28th, and 30th and that there will likely be a 6% increase in foot traffic compared to last year.

With some planning and patience, everyone can get where they’re going safely and with a little less stress this holiday season.
