Tuesday runoffs bring voters back to Georgia polls

ATLANTA (AP/WDEF) – Georgians head back to the polls in several runoff elections following May’s primaries.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and will remain open through 7 p.m.

In Northwest Georgia, we have two Republican state house races, plus local elections in Catoosa, Murray and Whitfield Counties.

The District Three race involves most of Catoosa County to replace Ringgold attorney Tom Weldon.

It pits Dewayne Hill against Jeff Holcomb.

This is the seat where they had to re-open qualifying when Weldon decided at the last minute not to seek re-election.

Holcomb lead the May 24th voting that led to the runoff.

The District 6 race involves parts of Whitfield and Murray Counties.

Incumbent Tom Dickson faces Jason Ridley. The winner will not face a democratic opponent in the fall.

Catoosa County also has a Republican runoff for Tax Commissioner between Gary Wayne Autry and Jama House.

Whitfield County has a Magistrate Court runoff between John Lofty and Shana Byers Vinyard.

Murray County
has a Republican runoff for the District 3 board of education race between Chris Owens and Aaron Phillips.

And both Whitfield and Murray voters must decide the runoff for Superior Court Judge to replace Jack Partain who is retiring.

That race pits attorney Steve Farrow against Chief Assistant D.A. Scott Minter.
