Tuition hikes approved for University of Tennessee campuses
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) – Tuition will be on the rise at University of Tennessee campuses statewide.
At the flagship UT-Knoxville campus, fees will be heading up 2.4%.
Meanwhile in our area at the UT-Chattanooga campus, tuition will be increasing by 3%.
This was approved Tuesday by the UT Board of Trustees, who say the increasing need to compete for students and faculty combined with economic inflation could lead to more increases in the future.
This says some trustees, will be tough for students and their families to swallow.
“I think we need to be thinking about the long term, what messages are we sending to people, so we don’t surprise families?” said UT Board of Trustees member Bill Rhodes. “My expectation is that we will likely have tuition and fee increases. Hopefully very moderate over periods of time, but I don’t anticipate we’re going to be able to go through another five-year period of time we have less than one percent increases.”
The new rates will go into effect for the upcoming school year in August.
