Turtletown fire is one of 5 wildfires burning now in our region

TURTLETOWN, Tennessee (WDEF) – There are now at least 5 active wildfires now across our region of Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina.

The latest is a fire that broke out last night in Turtletown in Polk County.

As of 11 PM last night, officials reported this one was about 20% contained.

It covered about 50 acres on the heights over McJunkin Road.

No homes are threatened at this point.

With no rain in the forecast, our area is peppered with total No burn bans, from Fort Payne, to Hamilton County, to the North Carolina Mountains.

This is the height of fire season for our area.

Yesterday, Georgia Forestry listed the potential causes for 5 wildfires in our part of the state:

— Highway 157 in Walker: ARSON

— Back Valley Road in Dade: ESCAPED FROM DEBRIS BURN

— Hap Holt Road in Gilmer: CAMPFIRE

— Egypt Hollow in Dade: UNDER INVESTIGATION (started in TN)

— Murphy Hollow in Dade: UNDER INVESTIGATION
