Twin Brothers Die; Neighbors Piece Together Unusual Death Investigation
However, it may come as less of a shock after you hear what neighbors have to say about Andrew and Anthony Johnson, 63.
"Our neighbors are very reclusive. We would see them come get their mail and then they go back inside. We would see them mow their lawn and they had masks on their face."
Neighbors, who do not want to be identified, say hospital masks were worn at all times.
"Saw them at the grocery store and they had a mask on then too."
But grocery store visits were a rarity, according to these folks.
They tell us the 63-year-old twins did not leave for weeks at a time.
Neighbors say, "We would try to say hello to them and they would just scurry away and run back inside."
Chattanooga Police confirm that the men lived a "hermit lifestyle" and had little or no contact with family.
Neighbors tell us the unusual stories continued for years.
"One time they left their garage door open and it was getting dark, so my husband knocked on the door to let them know and they called the cops on us."
In 2011, neighbors tell us an ambulance arrived at the home, took one brother away, and they haven’t seen them since.
"I knew they were overweight, I thought maybe that they had diabetes."
Around that time, family members asked police to check on the men.
They did, but officers did not suspect foul play, so they never went in.
Meanwhile, family members came around asking questions.
Neighbors tell us, "They would just ask if we’ve seen them or if we knew anything."
After about three years, family members sought out the police again, gave them a key, and told them to go in.
That’s when they found bones, and a whole lot of questions that need to be answered by a toxicology report.
We’re still waiting on the results of that toxicology report.
We’ve also learned that the men bought their home back in 1984 and stopped paying taxes in 2010.
Family members recently paid some of those taxes to keep the home from being sold.
