Two arrested in Hamilton County for having $67,000 worth of drugs
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two people for drug possession of more than $60,000 during a traffic stop.
On Thursday, October 25, deputies stopped a speeding car on I-75 southbound. When stopping the car, the deputy smelled marijuana odor coming from inside the car.
The HCSO said deputies then searched the car and found a backpack with a lot of narcotics inside. They also found two loaded handguns and more than $2,000 in cash.
According to the sheriff’s office, the couple had 333 grams of meth, 216 grams of fentanyl, 60 grams of crack cocaine and 128 grams of marijuana. They say these drugs are worth $67,000.
They arrested 44-year-old Demario Chambliss and 24-year-old Paula Smith.
Chambliss faces charges including two counts of drugs for resale, driving while in possession of more than 5 grams of meth, possession of a firearm during a felony, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.
Smith faces charges of drugs for resale, possession of a firearm during a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“This year, we have experienced 684 overdoses which resulted in 78 deaths across our county. Each day, your sheriff’s office is relentless in our commitment to eradicating dangerous drugs like methamphetamine and Fentanyl which are indiscriminately killing our citizens. To those involved in the distribution of this poison in our community, I have a clear message: We are looking for you and we are coming for you,” said Sheriff Austin Garrett.
