After nine hours, CFD extinguishes house fire

UPDATE:

The Chattanooga Fire Department reported that it took more than nine hours to clear the fire scene at Graceland Trail.

The fire department said:

“The home was structurally unsound due to fire damage and the floors were too compromised for firefighters to get inside and fully extinguish the fire.”

The city’s Public Works department brought machinery to tear down the burned duplex.

It wasn’t until after the house was torn down that CFD was able to fully extinguish the fire.

According to CFD, several firefighters fell on the icy driveway and were injured. Public Works also brought a salt and sand truck to treat the driveway.

Portable heaters were also brought to help warm the firefighters, and thaw frozen nozzles and hoses.

Several firefighters were on the scene, and crews rotated in and out of trucks to get warm.

Authorities are still investigating to determine what caused the fire.
