Two local officers added to Memorial for National Police Week
Both died in the line of duty over the last year
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDEF) – The names of two local law enforcement officers will be added to the list of fallen officers this week at a memorial in Washington, D.C.
A total of 282 officers will be added to the Memorial this year for National Police Week.
The names include Sgt. James Russ of the Chattanooga Police Department.
He suffered a fatal medical event while on duty in December.
The other name is Deputy Shannon Lang, Sr. from Marion County.
He suffered a heart attack after clearing a fallen tree from the highway in New Hope last September.
Representative Greg Martin is paying tribute to all law enforcement this week.
“Our men and women in blue represent the best of America. We should support and protect them every day of the year,” Martin said. “National Police Week is an important time to reflect on the officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to make their communities safer. Tennessee will always back law enforcement and ensure they have the resources necessary to safely and efficiently do their jobs.”
