Two UT Students Tried to Steal the Home Plate at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Two men have been arrested after police say they tried to remove home plate from Vanderbilt’s baseball stadium.
Vanderbilt police say Austin G. Shelton and Forrest E. Bullen were charged with evading arrest, criminal trespass and attempted theft. Shelton also was charged with felony vandalism and resisting arrest. Police say both men also received criminal trespass warnings and were advised not to return to campus.
Both men are 21 years old. The Tennessean reported that both are University of Tennessee students.
According to a university release, Shelton and Bullen were cutting the Hawkins Field turf and attempting to remove home plate when police arrived on the scene at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Hawkins Field is the home stadium of Vanderbilt, the defending College World Series champion.
