Two workers electrocuted on Hixson worksite

HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) — Two workers were electrocuted at a Hixson job site Wednesday afternoon.

Crews with the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded to the 4800 block of Woodland Circle at 2:50 p.m.

It was determined one worker was on the ground, acting as a spotter for the other worker, who was operating a crane.

The crane operator was maneuvering the boom and lifting hook, when the overhaul hook bal came into contact with a high powered line.

CFD stated the entire crane was energized and the crane operator was electrocuted, leaving him with significant injuries.

The spotter on the ground was also thrown back when he was electrocuted, which caused minor injuries.

Both workers were transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

EPB also responded to the scene to de-energize the crane and remove any dangers to the surrounding neighborhood.

Outriggers and grounding pads that were surrounding the crane were smoldering, and CFD was able to extinguish the flames.
