Tyner Academy student arrested for assaulting school resource deputy
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) arrested a Tyner Academy student on Monday.
A school resource deputy responded to what they said was a fight between multiple students.
“One of the students was walking around in an agitated state pulling on doors to see which one might open. It appeared as though he was attempting to gain access to the building to continue the fight,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Several staff members tried to deescalate the situation, but the student refused. The deputy then tried to block the student’s access to a set of doors, and the student pushed the deputy out of the way, the HCSO said.
The school resource deputy tried to take the student into custody, and the student resisted. They both fell to the ground, the sheriff’s office said.
The deputy called for backup and authorities took the student into custody. Due to the student being a juvenile, they are not releasing his identity.
Hamilton County authorities are charging him with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on law enforcement.
The HCSO said there may be additional charges after reviewing surveillance video and witness statements.
