Tyner Rams Facing Many Challenges This Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) After winning the 2A state title last year, Tyner will now face one of their most challenging seasons to date. They’re jumping up to Class 3A, and that’s where the fun only gets started.
With construction of the new Tyner school wiping out all of the football fields, time for the Rams to march to the beat of an old drum.
Guys are marching next door to the old middle school to practice.
Said head coach Christian Mainor:”I mean you look right now, we’ve got the band up here at the top of the hill. The middle school is out here. First day we came out here for spring, middle school track was running around.”
Tyner has only two home games this season. Both are at Finley Stadium.
Said running back Roshawn Holloway:”It’ll be kind of strange because every game we have to ride a bus. We’re not really used to that. We’re used to getting out of school early. Sitting in the locker room and stuff. Finley is our home field now because we won state there. That’s our home.”
Coach Mainor hopes his big guys round into championship form.
Said Mainor:”So we’re looking forward to our guys up-front. We challenged them the most. We re going to have to lean on them. It’s Friday. Just about every Friday. The game is going to be won and lost in the trenches.”
Maybe the Rams pass rush can engulf the quarterback similar to how this ‘pass brush’ has engulfed the lighting at the middle school field.
Said Mainor:”Yeah I think maybe some pruning back a little bit of the bushes and what not. Got to add it to my to-do list.”
Unfortunately for Mainor, graduation has pruned the Rams roster.
Said running back Sharkem Wells:”We lost a lot of seniors last year. We lost about 18 seniors, so this year our team. We’ve got a young team. We have about six seniors now.”
Despite the challenges, it’s still football. And Tyner is still a championship program.
Said Mainor:”Tyner is known for that physical brand of football. If we play hard, and we do those little things. I think we’ve got a chance to be a pretty good football team.”
