Union Gospel Mission Brings Hope and Warmth to Hundreds at Annual Christmas Dinner

This holiday season, the Union Gospel Mission is opening its doors wide for the community to come out to their annual Christmas dinner—a meal filled with warmth, joy, and hope for all this Christmas season.

“We are planning for 400-500 folks. Like I said, it’s like a family reunion because I’ll see people today that I won’t see again until the next dinner, and sometimes I won’t see folks for a couple of years. I love these folks to death. It’s a great opportunity to serve,” said John Rector, Director for the Union Gospel Mission.

At the heart of this effort were the volunteers who generously gave their time and energy, ensuring that those struggling with homelessness had not only a warm meal but also warm clothes for the holidays.

“It’s fantastic—it’s people helping people, you know? And it goes on and on. A lot of people get off the streets and come back to help as well. So, everyone is hand in hand,” said volunteer Kathy.

One volunteer is not just serving meals—he’s sharing his testimony, a powerful story of hope and transformation.

“When I ended up needing a place in the program at the Union Gospel Mission, it helped me stabilize and pushed me to do more. I eventually put myself on staff, and I just love it. It’s fuel for me,” said Lewis, volunteer.

For the Union Gospel Mission, serving goes beyond the meal. It’s about creating a space where everyone can feel loved
