UPDATE: Eastside Market Clerk Killed on 4th Avenue
Known for his generosity if someone was short on change, residents were stunned the friendly clerk lost his life.
"I know they’re kind and respectable," neighbor Beatrice Williams said. "Your short on change, they let you slide because they know you’re coming back to him because they treat you with kindness. They do. They all do. Just hurt, disgusted because they didn’t need to do him like that. And whoever it is they probably didn’t even get much."
The 911 call came across the scanner at about 9:40 Monday morning.
Police didn’t say who found his body or if any suspects were in custody.
They were investigating homes near the scene and were seen pulling a trash can away from the homes.
"We’re pursuing a suspect or suspects, whatever the case may be," said Captain Nathan Vaughn with the Chattanooga Police Department. "It’s obviously too early in the investigation to have that information. Right now our efforts are on that investigation. Certainly our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this victim. It’s a tragic way to have to start this holiday Monday."
As family members cried and held each other near by, the victim’s sister shared with News 12 that the family was from Korea and relatives had flown in to share the weekend together.
"I just couldn’t imagine coming to work and just get killed like that," Williams said.
