Update from Skyy Mims Murder Trial in Dalton

Dalton, Ga (WDEF) – Reporter Erik Avanier is updating testimony on Day 2 of the Skyy Mims murder trial in Dalton.

The aspiring hip hop artist from Detroit is charged with killing a convenience store clerk.

3 PM UPDATE

During cross examination of Detective Christopher Guay, three of the people who were at the store when the murder took place could not identify Skyy Mims as the killer.

He said he showed the surveillance video to multiple people who worked at the store and none of them identified her as the suspect.

The defense says the video shows a person wearing a white zippo hoodie with the hoodie partially open.

The defense argues that the hoodie was open enough to see the suspects chest.

Skyy Mims reportedly has tattoo on her chest, but the detective said the person he saw in the video did not have a tattoo.

Detective Guay said the person in image is 5’7", but the defense argues that Mims is much taller at 6’2”.

Mims stood up in court to show the jury that she towers over the height of 5’7”.

During cross examination, the detective aired that Mims is much taller than the person in the video.

The prosecution based its measurements on the location of the suspect’s head to a sign on a door.

The door sign measured out at 5’7”.

10:30 UPDATE

Whitfield county Detective Christopher Guay told jurors that he investigated the security cameras.

He says the suspect walked into store then went to the bathroom for 6-min then left the store and sat on curb for 15-20 min.

He says the suspect walked back in at approximately 11:08 and went back to the restroom.

He says he saw the victim leave the kitchen area then head toward the restroom then headed back the kitchen area.

Guay saw the suspect on video killing the victim then wrapping his head in duct tape. He says suspect left the store at 11:42 pm.

10:00 UPDATE

This morning in court, the manager and the owner of Kanku’s are testifying.

Both men are having problems answering questions from the defense about the lottery ticket log.

80 scratch tickets were recovered when Mims was arrested.

The prosecution says the tickets have serial numbers that are Linked back to the store.

Yesterday three of Mims family members were present in court.

Today, it appears that more of her family members are here.
