Update on gas supply after latest Colonial Pipeline explosion
HELENA, Alabama (WDEF) – The Colonial Pipeline explosion and fire is still burning, but analysts are trying to figure out when the gas supply will be switched back on for the southeast.
The explosion Monday afternoon sparked a fire at the gas pipeline that is still burning on Tuesday.
It sparked wildfires that have burned 32 acres around the site because of dry conditions.
Colonial officials say it started when a trackhoe hit the pipeline causing a fire.
One worker was killed, and four others injured.
On Tuesday, the company reports that the fire has been contained and will be allowed to burn itself out.
Yesterday, they closed their two main pipelines for the southeast.
The line carrying jet fuel, home heating and diesel was reopened before midnight.
But the auto fuel line remains shutdown, probably for the rest of the week.
Gas prices shot up in our area when the same pipe was closed by the September leak.
