UPDATE: Man Dies After Salt Truck Accident

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The driver of a Chrysler PT Cruiser, involved in Friday night’s accident with a Chattanooga Public Works salt truck, lost his life tonight.

The driver, 36-year-old Jon L. Laymon, succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Chattanooga Police Department said the investigation is still ongoing.

Chattanooga,TN (WDEF) Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigators were dispatched to 400 DuPont Parkway around 10:43 p.m. Friday night on a accident in which a vehicle hit a Public Works salt truck resulting in serious injuries.

Police said the Public Works truck was laying salt on the road. A PT Cruiser was traveling North on Dupont Parkway at a high rate of speed and lost control and struck the rear of the Public Works truck breaking the salt truck’s axle.

The driver of the PT Cruiser suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital by HCEMS. The Public Works driver was not injured. Chattanooga Police urge all drivers to use extreme caution on roadways as driving conditions are not ideal due to current weather.
