Update on power from Mountain counties to our east
BRMEMC has fixed most outages in North Carolina and Georgia mountains
YOUNG HARRIS, Georgia (WDEF) – While the snow once again only lightly dusted most of the News 12 Now coverage area, it was a different story in the mountains to our east.
The Blue Ridge Mountain EMC reports widespread power outages from Saturday through Monday in their coverage area.
That includes smaller outages in both Cherokee and Fannin Counties.
The worst damage was in the Shooting Creek area of Clay County, NC.. plus the Hiwassee and Suches areas in Georgia.
They had ten power poles break under the snow across the system.
The total number of outages by county on Sunday were as follows:
- Towns: 2,157
- Union: 3,622
- Fannin: 185
- Clay: 296
- Cherokee: 19
There were also a few fiber internet outages.
Also in Fannin and Gilmer counties, the local health departments will delay opening drive thru testing sites until 10 AM on Tuesday.
