Urban League accuses mayor of misleading county commission
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Fiery accusations flew on Wednesday during the public comment period at the Hamilton County commission meeting.
Last year, commissioners voted to pull more than a million dollars from the Urban League and Sankofa.
The commission diverted that money from the Urban League to provide athletic facilities for both Howard and Brainerd High School.
Urban League representatives spoke up about losing funding. They accused the county mayor of misleading the commission about how funds were spent on the Urban League building.
“I inspected the building yesterday, and I found that not to be true,” said former City Judge Walter Williams. “You were duped… you were duped in voting to take the money back.”
Mayor Wamp says Urban League President Candy Johnson declined to meet with him on this matter.
