US Marshals Service captures 160+ East TN fugitives and dangerous criminals
Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Local law enforcement agencies including the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Chattanooga Police Department just wrapped up a six-week partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service for Operation Violence Reduction 7.
Chief Deputy Allen Branham said, "We work very close together every day trying to rid the streets of violent criminals. Sometimes the criminals are, you know, they don’t know the boundary lines so we have to work very close together."
Lieutenant Tammy Cook heads up the Organized Crime Division of the Chattanooga Police Department. She said, "Chattanooga Police Department, we’ve always had a really good working relationship with the United States Marshal Service, and we’ve always worked in collaborating with state and local and federal agencies."
Operation Violence Reduction 7 netted 168 fugitives, gang members, sex offenders and violent criminals just from eastern Tennessee.
Chief Deputy Branham added, "This particular operation was a lot bigger area than what we’re normally working with because it included up in Sevier, Blount, and several other counties, plus Hamilton County. Just a bigger operation of something we do on a routine basis."
All parties involved credit the operation’s success to the ability of the different agencies to work together. Cheif Branham said, "We with the Sheriff’s Office offer whatever resources we’ve got. Whether its manpower, intelligence, you know, access to information."
Lt. Cook added, "It kind of adds to our manpower, if you will. It makes those connections with the other agencies, so whatever, you know, we need, extra manpower, we’re able to call on those other agencies, and vice-versa."
