UTC Hosts I T Conference
Do you know what “HTML” stands for? How about “Javacode?”
Unless you’re a computer programmer you probably don’t know much about that mysterious world…. where very bright people make it possible for the rest of us to use facebook– and a thousand other programs.
Some of those people were at UTC today for a conference, and News 12’s Bill Mitchell will try to tell us what they were doing.
JEREMY FAIRBANK, SOFTWARE ENGINEER “We learn about functions like “f of x back” equals x plus 2. And we know that if we pass in two..something like that, you get 2 plus 2 equals 4.”
Yes, these folks do talk like that, and it makes perfect sense to them.
They write code–which for those of us over 35, means they can make your cell phone, computer and even your automobile systems work right.
The conference is serious business and a wealth of information for those who took part.
Chattanooga hasn’t hosted a major conference for IT Professionals in a couple of years.
BRANDEN SCHWARTZ, ORGANIZATION TEAM “What we’re trying to do, in our first year is to be very focused..have a small number of high quality talks and then hopefully in future years we’ll grow to the point where we’re at that level.”
This was the first of what organizers hope will be other successful Scenic City Summits.
The speakers came from all over.
PRATIK PATEL , CTO, ATLANTA “I’m going to be talking about building web applications and websites…using some new technology called REACT.”
A wide array of emerging technology topics like that, including modern Web Development and Virtual Reality, dominated the day long event.
PRATIK PATEL “It allows you to build web applications …it could be anything..it could be something like Amazon.com, or something that allows people to send cat pictures or whatever.”
Chattanooga is a great place for such a conference. it’s now getting a reputation as a little “silicon valley”, and the One Gig internet service from EPBFI is bringing more talent.
This one was presented by Chattanooga’s Technology Council, which connects the Chattanooga technology community, and promotes the scenic city as a top tech hub.
And, by the way—HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language.
