UTC Student Found Dead In Dorm Room
Chattanooga Police Investigating Incident; Vice Chancellor States That Foul Play Is Not Suspected
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- A student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was found dead in their dorm room on Wednesday.
According to the university, the student was discovered unconscious by a staff member during a routine room safety check at their student apartment. The name of the hall was not disclosed.
Dr. Yancey Freeman, the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, sent out the following statement via email and social media.
“UTC Community,
I am saddened to report the death of one of our students today, Wednesday, March 23, 2022. The student was found to be non-responsive in their on-campus apartment during a routine scheduled room-safety check. The UTC Police Department responded as well as the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) and emergency medical services. The death was confirmed by emergency medical professionals. The CPD is currently investigating the death, but there is no foul play suspected. We will not release the name of the student to protect the privacy of the family and friends who are directly impacted by this death.
