UTC unveils Mobile MOC rural health service

DAYTON, Tenn. (WDEF)- UTC nursing students will be hitting the road across rural portions of our viewing area.

They unveiled the Mobile MOC in Dayton Tuesday.

This will be a mobile health care unit to bring healthcare to older adults and caregivers far away from medical resources.

A two point six million dollar grant from the Tennessee Department of Health is making this possible through their ROAD MAP program.

Program leaders say this is a unique opportunity to give students a chance to sharpen their skills while serving an underserved population.

Kristi Wick, a professor in the UTC School of Nursing, said, “Several of our counties don’t have a hospital or an emergency room, and very limited on primary care. We travel as far as an hour and a half away from campus, so if you think about someone making the reverse trip to a more urban area, it can take someone a great deal of time to get the care they need.”

This health clinic will be visiting every Tennessee county in the News 12 viewing area beginning in April.

They are partnering with local senior centers to provide their services, so check in with your local center to see when they come to your area.
