UTC, UT consider tuition hikes for upcoming year
The Board of Trustees for the University of Tennessee has announced they are considering tuition hikes for the coming year.
The proposed hike for UTC is 322 dollars.
Officials say the money will be used to fill in the salary pool for next year that the state did not completely fund.
The hike at UT is 148 dollars.
They say they need the extra money to cope with the 20-percent growth of undergraduates over the last five years.
UT System President Randy Boyd says both are below the maximum hikes set by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.
There is a public comment period on the proposals for the next two weeks.
The Board will act on the proposed hikes at their meeting on June 30th.
