UTC Women Open SoCon Tourney With 68-47 Win Over Mercer

(gomocs.com) The No. 2 seed Chattanooga Mocs women’s basketball team went wire-to-wire during a 68-47 convincing victory over No. 7 Mercer in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Southern Conference Tournament held inside the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina, on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, No. 2 Chattanooga (15-13) earned its seventh-straight SoCon Tournament victory and advances to the semifinal round for the third-straight season, awaiting the winner of No. 3 ETSU and No. 6 Furman (4 p.m. ET tip). The semifinal game is set for Friday, March 7, at 1:15 p.m. on ESPN+.

 INSIDE THE BOX – Chattanooga 68, Mercer 47

  • Caia Elisaldez and Karsen Murphy combined for 17 first-quarter points to help Chattanooga jump out to a 23-11 lead after one. UTC earned a 14-3 rebounding edge in the opening quarter.
  • The Mocs outscored the Bears 14-3 in the second quarter to help build a sizable 38-15 halftime lead. The squad limited Mercer to a lowly 6-of-26 (23.1%) shooting mark from the field in the half.
  • Mercer fought back in the third quarter with a 17-9 scoring advantage to trim its deficit to 15, 47-32, after the Mocs went just 3-of-10 (0-of-6 3PT) from the field.
  • UTC went an efficient 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the free-throw line in the final period to help ice the quarterfinal victory and earn a spot in the semifinal round for the third-straight season.

 THREE KEY GAME NOTES

  • Chattanooga has won its last seven SoCon Tournament games dating back to the streaks start in the 2023 quarterfinals.
  • The Mocs outscored the Bears 38-15 in the first half including a 15-4 second quarter effort… the +23-halftime advantage marked the largest (vs. DI) this season since a +25 (42-17) edge against N.C. Central back on November 11.
  • Brooke Anya finished with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-8 FG (7-of-8 FT)… largest scoring output in a Mocs uniform since a career-high 26 points against Samford on January 16.
