UTC Women Will Defend SoCon Tournament Title Without Leading Scorer Keiana Gilbert

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The UTC women’s basketball team will try to defend their SoCon tournament title this week without their best player.
Head coach Jim Foster says Keiana Gilbert will not play due to a leg injury. Gilbert suffered the injury in practice last week, and she missed the final two regular season games. Gilbert was named first team All SoCon on Tuesday. She was the Mocs leading scorer at just over 14-points a game. Coach Foster says Gilbert’s injury is par for the course this year.

Said Foster: “The nature of this season has been what’s next. I mean what else could happen? This is a decades worth of stuff, not a year, and I think they’ve handled it extremely well.” Reporter: “What about going into the conference tournament without your leading scorer?”

Said guard Aryanna Gilbert: “Other people are just going to have to just step up, and take on more responsibility.”

Chattanooga opens tournament play on Thursday at 5:45pm in Asheville as they take on Greensboro
