UTC Women’s Basketball Team Remains Confident Heading to SoCon Tournament

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The UTC women begin defense of their SoCon tournament title Thursday against Greensboro. Even though the Mocs are not the favorite, and even though they’ll be without their top player in the injured Keiana Gilbert, Chattanooga remains confident heading to Asheville.

UTC may enter the SoCon tournament as the three seed, but they’re also the five time defending tourney champs.
Said guard Aryanna Gilbert:”Something Coach Foster brings to our attention all the time that we are the only team that knows how to win a championship in the SoCon, so I think that’s a huge factor.”
Said head coach Jim Foster:”I think it helps that we have a pretty good idea of how to behave when we get up there. We know how to act when we are a target.”
Said Gilbert:”I think a lot of people are kind of looking at us maybe as an underdog this year.”
Since the Mocs are without Keiana Gilbert and a few other players who are banged up, assistant coaches Brittany Johnson and Katie Burrows are now actually practicing with the team.
Said Foster:”It’s obvious that Katie has two children under the age of three. She hasn’t lost any quickness.”
Because depth might be an issue, is Coach Foster worried about the minutes piling up for some players with the possibility of three games in four days.
Said Foster:”I never worry about minutes for players. They’re 18 to 22, and old people like you and me worry about minutes. They don’t worry about minutes.”
Reporter:”I know the goal is to get to this point of the season playing your best basketball. Do you kind of feel that way?”
Said Foster:”I thought we played very well the last two weeks. Did a lot of good things.”
