Vanguard Renewables appealing decision to deny Murray County biowaste plant proposal

MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- The saga over a proposed biowaste plant in Murray County is not finished.

Vanguard Renewables tells News 12 they have filed an appeal to the county asking them to reaffirm their letters of approval of their project.

They tell us, “Vanguard Renewables has filed an appeal asking the County to reaffirm the zoning and solid waste consistency letters previously issued for this project, which confirmed that the proposed facility fits the County’s zoning rules and solid waste management plan based on the established facts about its design and operations. Filing this appeal is part of keeping the normal Georgia permitting process moving forward.”

They want to build an anaerobic digestor, which they say would recycle waste into energy.

However, hundreds of residents, including Murray County Commissioner Noah Bishop and former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, voiced their opposition to the project.

They are concerned about environmental impacts among other issues.

Vanguard says a date for an appeals hearing has not been set, which will be set by the Murray County attorney.
